ABR - Accredited Buyer Representative - Designation Courses
The most popular designation program in real estate is ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative). Whether you want to be a buyer specialist, or just want information on handling buyers, Barney Fletcher Schools has a program for you.
The ABR Designation is the most prestigious buyer representation designation in the industry. It is granted by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council (REBAC), a solely owned subsidiary of the National Association of Realtors. Barney Fletcher Schools has been offering this designation in Georgia longer than any other school - over 10 years.
The education qualification for the ABR is the completion of two courses:
- The 2-day "Accredited Buyer Representation" course and
- A 1-day course chosen from one of the following five (5) courses:
- "Successful New Home Representation"
- "Land 101" (2 Days)
- "WCR's Effective Negotiation for Real Estate Professionals"
Additionally, a candidate for the designation must provide evidence of practical experience as a buyer representative and be a member in good standing of REBAC – your REBAC membership is included with your course tuition at no additional fee.

Course costs are listed below. Discounts are available when you enroll in two courses (Accredited Buyer Representative and one other) at the same time: ABR plus a 6-hour course is $345.00; ABR plus a 12-hour course is $395.00.
"Accredited Buyer Representation"

Comprised of four modules covering theory and principles of buyer representation, marketing and promotion, service delivery, recognizing conflicts, strategy and negotiation, disclosure and informed consent, molding client exceptions, building client credibility, obtaining compensation, establishing policies and procedures, reducing liability, obtaining an agency commitment, relocation aspects, and effective capitalization of the ABR designation.
"Innovative Marketing for the Buyer Representative"
6 hrs. CE Credit / $95
The ultimate course for the development of a sound marketing plan for buyer representatives. Topics include home buyer profiles; solving consumer problems; positioning; the five attributes of a business transaction; determining your worth; unbundling services; determining marketing strategies; horizontal and vertical marketing; buyer counseling opportunities; products; and services.
"Foreclosure—Prevention and Opportunities for Buyers-Clients"

Real estate foreclosures have been increasing—and will continue to do so as interest rates on adjustable rate mortgages (ARMs) increase. This course explores the business of foreclosures and teaches agents how to discover opportunities for their buyer-clients. The course covers such topics as: when and how foreclosures occur; how today’s market can benefit you and your buyers; nontraditional loan programs; pre and post foreclosure opportunities with bank-owned real estate (REO’s); the professionals you’ll need to know to work with foreclosures; “short sale” opportunities; assisting your buyer-client with an initial needs assessment related to a foreclosure property.
"Successful New Home Sales"

New home sales have always been an integral part of any real estate market. In this course, for the first time, new home sales is dealt with from the buyer representative standpoint by covering builders and their products; the development process; the purchase transaction; unique features of new home sales; building relationships with sellers and buyers; the builder's rep; service philosophy; matching buyer, builder and subdivision; showing and evaluating homes; serving the buyer's transaction needs; and marketing services
- Understand the skills required to be successful in the vacation home market
- Know relevant market statistics
- Understand regional differences
- Identify trends and issues particular to these markets as means of building rapport with clients.
"WCR Effective Negotiation for Real Estate Professionals"
6 hrs. CE Credit / $95
- Differentiate between two main negotiating practices: positional bargaining and value negotiating.
- List steps in the positional bargaining and value negotiating processes.
- Select the appropriate negotiating practices based on the specific circumstances.
- Apply processes of positional bargaining and value negotiating during role playing activities and case scenarios.
- Identify factors that could lead to impasse.
- Overcome barriers that otherwise would lead to impasse.
This course also counts as one of three courses required for the Performance Management Network Designation managed by the Women’s Council of REALTORS.
"Land 101 "
12 hrs. CE Credit / $195
The overall goal of the Land 101 course is to introduce real estate professionals to the land brokerage business. In each Course Module, you will examine a different topic, and together they create a comprehensive guide to help you begin to understand this business. By the time the course is complete, the participant should be able to:
- Differentiate between the different land types.
- Describe the fundamentals of the land brokerage business.
- Explain assemblage and the site selection process.
- Identify the factors that influence land values.
- Recognize the different appraisal methods.
- List the major factors in subdivision development.
- Know when to bring in an expert in a land-related deal.
- Explain the process for getting started in land brokerage.
- Identify how RLI can be a valuable resource.
- Understand the tax issues involved in land brokerage.
- Identify property rights and the major restrictions.
- Describe the major environmental factors that affect land brokerage.
- Understand the issues related to wetlands and brownfields.
- List the key issues for conservation easements.
- Define highest and best use, and explain its impact on the land brokerage business.
- Explain rent theory.
- List several methods to package a property.
- Understand the legal ramifications of a land contract.
Land Brokerage 101 was developed by the REALTORS Land Institute and is one of the six courses required to earn the Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) designation.
Career Management (CM-REP)

ABRM Designation
The ABRM Designation is now available from Barney Fletcher Schools as well. For brokers, broker/owners and managing brokers this is the designation the buyers want to see; it means that this office’s agents and management can handle buyer representation effectively. In order to receive the Accredited Buyer Representative Manager designation, you must complete both the ABR and ABRM courses.
